Who hasn't heard of Venice ?!
According to Wiki, Venice (Venezia) is a city in northeast Italy sited on a group of 118 small islands separated by canals and linked by bridges. It is located between the Po and the Piave Rivers. Venice is renowned for the beauty of its setting, its architecture and its artworks. The city is listed as World Heritage Site, along with its lagoon.
Venice is the capital of the Veneto region. The population of the whole Comune of Venezia is estimated at 270000 inhabitants: around 60000 lives in the historic city of Venice, 176000 in Terraferma (Mestre and Marghera), 31000 live on other islands in the lagoon. Together with Padua and Treviso, the city is included in the Padua-Treviso-Venice Metropolitan Area (PATREVE - population 1600000).
The name is derived from the ancient Veneti people who inhabited the region by the 10th century BC.
Along the time, Venetia was a point of inspiration for others, for example, the name of Venezuela is a Spanish diminutive for Venice.
Venice is also known for its Carnival of Venice which is held annually in the city, and at the time I wrote these, in Venice takes place the Venice Film Festival founded in 1932, which took place every year in late August or early September on the island of the Lido.
